The Chinese - Potter Friday

After working quite hard for the whole week, I and Monika decided that we would like to see the new Harry Potter film.

We both like very similar books, well, not all books I like she would enjoy. Anyway, we both have read all Harry Potter books and have very similar points of view about them. That is that all books were very unoriginal but also quite enjoyable. Wait... did I say all? No, there was the last one - absolutely terrible, boring, stupid, tedious... all the worst what ca be found in a book. We both hated it.

If you really really want to read something very good in perfect style about MAGIC, read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, by Susanna Clarke. This is masterfully written.

Anyway, this post is not about the movie, not yet.

Before we went to the movie, Monika wanted to go to a restaurant, she had found a Chinese one, just by the cinema. It is on the other side of the street. The restaurant itself is not impressive, simply an old flat, remodeled into an eatery. What is characteristic is that there are almost no other people except the Chinese. The food though, it is delicious! We both could not believe how good it was.

For the start we chose a soup, I had some spicy soup with strips of meat. There were also some Asian and Chinese spices and vegetables in it. It was very very filling as well as healthy (hope so.)
She took very nice soup which I had already eaten on the train station in Berlin. I think it is called Won-Tong? With small shrimp dumplings, also quite hot and gorgeous!

We really wanted to try the steam-cooked dumplings so we had a plate: SOOOO goood, not too much meat in them too. Actually, the pieroza (mix between gioza and pierogi which Satopi and I like making is at least as good)

Then there was the time for the main meal. Actually, by then the table next to us was taken by a family. Obviously Chinese. There was the mother, father and son. Nice food they were having as well. All would be well if the father was not talking on the phone the whole time :!!!!!!!!!!!! His ring tone was extremely loud too, not to mention stuuupid. I wanted to kill him with one of the dumplings, stuff it into his nostril maybe.

Anyway, when the food arrived, we were happy again (like wallowing swine) because it was extremely good. I took beef with onion and pepper and Monika took I believe Sechuan Chicken - pieces of chicken with bones, baked in an oven with lots of red peppers and some special Chinese pepper seeds.

The beef was simply divine, so soft and mouthwatering, I normally do not savour food. This time though, I simply had to, soooo good. Even the onion was absolutely wonderful.

We shared our food actually, M took the chicken and it was possibly better that what I had. I actually ate almost all paprika!!! The small pepper seeds were interesting, the taste they had was actually very lemony and lingering, you could easily feel the first of the peppers in your mouth an hour after starting to eat it. It was a hot-prickly taste, difficult to describe... you know, my stomach has just now reminded itself about the food, my mouth is also full of water... I want to go there with S-baby. She will be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy :D there is also free tee, and good because something liquid We would not be able to eat all of it. We left some red peppers and a piece of the chicken there anyway... so ashamed but I simply could not eat anything else. UMAI UMAI.

Next time, it is Harry Potter time.
