Pa-panda Weekend

There was a NEW birthday party last Sunday. On Saturday I ate and drunk too much as well...

Well, on Saturday I was by Mr B and Miss O to have a grill party (barbecue) agaaain. The main purpose of the meeting was to make Polish pickled gherkins (or cucumbers). There are a few kinds of those in the world so it is easy to mistake them. The ones we in Poland like are made without vinegar. You need to add the root of horseradish to it, sometimes the leaves as well, and DILL is a MUST! If you have some oak, blackberry and raspberry leaves, it is good too. We did not have any so Ms O's father made the cucumbers without it. These ones are a sub-type, made with salty boiled water. You can also use fresh tap water too. If what you want is so called 'low salt' cucumbers you need some glass jars with metal screw-tops. If you want to have real "ogórki kiszone" "pickled Cucumbers," which can stay in jars for a long time - then the jars need to be very clean, cleaned with boiling water. The recipe is different as well.
So they made a few jars of the pickles, good to eat in a few days more. They had managed to buy real Polish cucumbers, dill and even horseradish. Should be good.

The day was very pleasant although it was not too warm and the wind was making it more difficult to grill - blowing away all the heat. However, once we got the fire going, cooking was much easier. Obviously, I was the meat - master again this time, as you can see on these photos (to come) , I initiated using aluminum foil for cooking -great idea.
Anyway, I got back home on the bike, walking part of the way with the uncle and aunt of "O".
I was back about 12:30 slightly drunk but OK.

The next day, Sunday was to be quite tiring. First of all, I promised Monika - the girl me and S will be sharing a flat later on with, to help her move her things to a temporary flat. She has to change flats for 2 months because otherwise shewould have to pay some huge amount of cash for her old flat. Soooo, I was carrying some bags - heavy stuff. We got 3 huge bags to her new flat but could not move more so got a taxi an drove the last 3 (the biggest of all.) I was tired but afterwards went quickly back home, ate some Greek pickled peppers (stuffed with Greek cheese) and drove on. There was a paaaarty! Birthday of Joanna and Mateusz - colleagues from work. They are almost twins... they were born on the same day of the same month. Just in a different year :D There were so many people there, mostly Polish. The boyfriend of Joanna was the barbecue master this time - he is good. He made some sausages, chicken, beef burgers. They were possibly too burned (on the surface only) but very edible. He had a very good idea too. You boil the potatoes whole then wrap them in aluminum foil and put into fire. The same thing can be
done with fish, the other people had some nice grilled trout. I was too full to eat that.
Once I get some photos, I will put them on Picasa and add some to this post.
We really had a nice time and since the start was early by 12 everybody was done and going home. I was home quite early too, before midnight even. Today morning was not too bad then. It is just a bit boring to work here
